Emotion or biology? Hubris or Darwinian violence? Humiliation or relational aggression?



It is very tempting to use evolutionary psychology to explain EVERYTHING.

The danger is that it’s pretty hard to DISprove evolutionary psychology theories.

Thus if I claim that violence in the modern world is all predetermined due to the hormonal instincts of primitive hunter-gatherers who lived 40,000 years ago, it sounds plausible, but it’s hard to TEST.

If I claim that the modern nastiness of “relational aggression” is all just a resurgence of Stone Age dominance-fighting within primate tribes, it sounds very reasonable, but it’s not necessarily a useful or productive explanation.
